Backbone, in Muse.
The Backbone connector lets Muse, Meta’s AI agent, answer questions about your inventory in plain English. It can also make two kinds of stock change, and only after you see a preview and confirm it.
Ask about your stock. Get real answers.
These are read-only. Looking something up never changes anything in Backbone.
Stock levels
How many of an item you have at each location, plus product details such as SKU and barcode.
Low-stock alerts
Which items are running low and need attention.
Purchase orders
Your purchase orders and what has been received against each one so far.
Last stock count
When your stock was last counted and what that count found.
Stock reports
Reports such as what to reorder, what is not selling, and what is selling fastest. Cost figures appear only if your Backbone role can already see them.
Recent changes
Stock changes made through Muse, newest first, including any that were undone.
Two changes. Only when you confirm.
The connector can make exactly two kinds of change. Nothing else in Backbone can be changed through Muse.
Adjust a stock count.
Correct the count of an item at one location, for example after finding damaged stock. The change is saved in your stock history like any other adjustment, and it can be undone the same way: preview, then confirm.
Receive a shipment.
Record a delivery against one of your purchase orders, so the items are added to stock and the order shows what arrived. A received shipment cannot be undone through Muse.
Preview, then confirm.
Muse first shows you exactly what will change, before and after. Nothing is saved until you confirm. A preview expires after 10 minutes, and if your stock changed in the meantime, Backbone asks for a fresh preview instead of applying an old one.
Your permissions. Your call.
It acts as you.
Muse works with the permissions of the person who connected it. If your role cannot adjust stock in Backbone, Muse cannot adjust it for you either.
You approve the connection.
You sign in to Backbone, pick exactly one business, and see a plain-English list of what Muse is asking to do. You can approve or deny.
Backbone enforces the rules.
Permission checks run on Backbone’s servers, not inside the AI. Every change must be previewed first and then confirmed as a separate step, or Backbone refuses it.
Owners see the activity.
In Backbone, under Settings → Developers, owners can see which apps are connected and the changes made through Muse.
Owners can switch off changes.
The business owner can turn off changes at any time. Muse can still look things up, but it cannot change stock counts or receive deliveries.
Disconnect at any time.
Revoke a connection from Settings → Developers → Connected apps and it stops working straight away. If someone leaves your business, their connection stops working too.
API reference.
The connector works over MCP (Streamable HTTP) and as a REST API, uses OAuth 2.0 with PKCE for sign-in, and is described by one OpenAPI document. The reference covers every tool, its inputs and outputs, and the error format.
Backbone is an independent company. This connector is built and supported by Backbone, not by Meta.
